About the Leaf Table (Custom Union Round Table with Leaves and Lazy Susan)
The Leaf Table is an excellent example of our custom design and engineering capabilities. Designed for a client of the NB Design Group in Seattle, our challenge was to modify the design of the Union Round Dining Table to add a wood flush-inset lazy susan, Silestone top, accommodate a 24” leaf without expanding the pedestal base, and keep the total weight of the piece limited to protect hydronic heating coils in the floor. We custom-engineered and fabricated our own glide bracket hardware that could work with the unique geometry of the table, utilized ½” thick Silestone to keep the weight down and minimize the edge profile to maximize legroom, modified the base design to alleviate torsional rotation when the leaf is in, and created a warm and leathery “rusted” finish at the steel. The operable portions of the tabletop glide smoothly out to accommodate the leaf, cantilevering past the fixed steel base for a thin edge profile for dining comfort. We worked directly with the homeowners’ structural engineer to verify the weight and configuration of the table design would work with their floor structure and hydronic infrastructure.
This piece is the ultimate in complex functionality that has been designed to remain easy to use and appear streamlined and refined.
